Abstract: the article is devoted to the description of the results of a study aimed at studying the influence of deep, external and internal factors of family interaction on the satisfaction with marriage of spouses with different length of family life. In the process of empirical research, it has been proven that social and demographic factors have a significant impact on satisfaction with marital relations. The length of family life determines the prevailing family values and attitudes. Also, this factor turns out to be key in changing the importance of the key functions of the family in the perception of spouses. The study also confirmed that satisfaction with marriage is gender specific. Differences were revealed in relation to the key values of the family and role attitudes, while there is a shift in gender roles – men increasingly focus on parenting, while women are becoming more focused on building a career. General conclusions are associated with a decrease in the reproductive function of the family and an increase in the importance of intimate-sexual interaction and the emotional-therapeutic function of the family for both men and women. The most important determinants of marital satisfaction are consistency at the level of values, family roles and family functions, consistency of the needs of spouses, as well as consistency of interests and forms of joint leisure activities. The results obtained determine the need for a differentiated approach to consulting work with the topic of satisfaction, which was implemented in the development of a strategy for increasing the satisfaction of married couples, taking into account various socio-psychological factors. This strategy has been implemented in the family counseling process and has proven to be effective.
