PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS IN THE PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY OF THE TRANSLATOR

Abstract: a study was conducted on the subject of research on psychological barriers that impede the professional activities of translators into Japanese. The aim of the study was to identify or refute the hypothesis that there are certain psychological barriers that block and impede the beginning and development of successful translation activities of  Japanese linguists. The tasks were to form groups, conduct questionnaires and subsequent testing with data processing and analysis. The sample consisted of students and graduates from different courses of the Far Eastern Federal University of the Department of Japanese Studies. There were 80 people who became participants in two groups of 40 people with experience and without experience in professional activities. The main barriers identified in the research process and which the research participants face in the process of learning the Japanese language and subsequent professional realization were named: cognitive, motivational, emotional and a mixed type barrier. In different groups, the shares of these barriers were distributed differently, demonstrating the “strengths” and “weaknesses” of both groups. An analysis of the results made it possible to visually see the difference between these groups and identify problem areas for future graduates, on which tutors can and should begin to work in the process of educational activities.
