Abstract: this article describes the family-role relations inherent in the traditional Karachay culture. Also some components of mountain etiquette “Tau adet” where respect for parents is based on authority of seniors are touched upon. The article describes the functional and role responsibilities of members of the Karachay family. The functions and features of the formation of moral and emotional values in the traditional Karachay family are revealed.
