Abstract: the article reveals the main problems associated with the study of social support. The construct of social support is considered in the framework of its study in various fields. The main problematic issues that researchers are currently facing are described. A program of social and psychological readaptation of parents raising children with disabilities was developed and tested. The research methods were the local method, which was used to formulate the research hypothesis immediately after getting acquainted with the subject. The novelty of the study is that the effect of social support can change due to individual characteristics of the individual and his reaction to stress. The results of the study show that parents of children with disabilities have made significant changes in all social support strategies. The results obtained indicate that the program of socio-psychological readaptation has a significant impact on positive changes in the structure of social support strategies. The authors show that psychological and behavioral pathways can have a mutual influence on the processes of social support of the population, and psychological distress can affect the perception of support and contribute to negative social interactions.
